Art Technique— The Basics Mondays, 11-11:55 AM Teacher: H Carter, they/she. Haymahhey@gmail.com. Course Cost: $400*** Students will need to bring their own supplies. A list will be provided. Course Duration: 15 weeks Ages: 9-18 Back to the basics— bring your best sketchbooks and sharpen that graphite! Here we will discuss graphite as a medium (pencil, charcoals) and work our way up to painting with gouache (almost a cross between acrylic and oil paints). Once we master paints…we can get our hands dirty with some mud and make a sculpture all our own. It could be decorative, thought-provoking, or wearable! Focusing on shading techniques, we will start with still life drawings and work up to drawing (and painting!) whatever is in our hearts. Maybe it’s a portrait, a still life, or something more abstract that is begging to be released from your fingertips…. We will go over value, shape, and shades as well as the rules of color theory, proportion, and the golden rule that is “it doesn’t need to be perfect.” Various drawing exercises—be they bilateral or single line, or maybe even totally BLIND— will help you take this creative rule to heart. Students will need to bring their own art materials. I’ll provide a list of materials before the semester starts. An estimate of 90-135$ should cover the cost of supplies for the semester. If anyone is having trouble sourcing supplies due to cost, please reach out and I will help facilitate materials. This class is open to all skill sets—I only ask that the material learned be applied, no matter how repetitive it may seem. Repetition builds confidence— much like practice makes “perfect."

Cancellation Policy
Refund Policy: The LEAD Refund policy for dropping a class is as follows: • Class canceled 1+ weeks before classes begin = full refund of class and LEAD fees. • Class canceled 1 week before OR after classes begin = no refund of LEAD fees. Refund of class fees is up to the discretion of the instructor. If, for some reason, a class you have signed up for is canceled by LEAD or the instructor (either before or after the start of classes), you will have the option of receiving a refund of your LEAD per-class fee or applying it to another class. These terms are subject to change per semester.
