Details
BioGlow! FLL Innovation Project Mondays, 11:30 AM-12:25 PM Teacher: Robert Hill and Julia Lutgendorf, steampoweredkids@gmail.com Course Cost: $75 for FLL Robotics students, $340 for non-Robotics students. Course Duration: 15 weeks Ages: 9-14 This class is a dedicated period for students participating in the robotics First Lego League competition to work on their innovation project and presentation. Students do NOT need to be members of LEAD’s robotics team to enroll, but priority will be given to team members. FIRST's theme for the 2026/27 season is Canopy, with FLL focusing BioGlow: biodiversity and the question of how technology, creativity, and research can help better understand and protect natural habitats. Students will develop innovative ideas using STEM skills – inspired by nature itself. Specific details will be released by FIRST on August 4. Students will spend the semester preparing a live, engaging presentation to explain the work they have done on their innovation project. This will include: • Identify and research a problem. • Design a new solution or improve an existing one based on the team's selected idea, brainstorming, and plan. • Create a model, drawing, or prototype. • Iterate on the solution by sharing it with others and collecting feedback. • Communicate the solution’s potential impact. Students can expect to work on: research, engineering/design thinking, project management, iteration of ideas and models, writing, public speaking and presentation skills. Last season, teams were challenged to identify a problem faced by archaeologists and propose a solution that can help.
