Details
ELA Grammar and Writing Wednesdays, 1-2:25 PM Teacher: Amy Medford. losmedfords@gmail.com. Course Cost: $420*** Course Duration: 15 weeks Age: 13-18 This is a grammar and writing class using the Well Trained Mind curriculum. This class is for grades 9+ (ages 13+). Half of the class will be a grammar lesson, the second half will be a writing portion. It is designed to be taught in a full year—both fall and spring semesters. We will review basic grammar concepts: parts of speech, parts of a sentence, phrases, and clauses. We will work with vocabulary so as to be concise in our word choices- picking the best, most appropriate words to convey meaning. We will practice diagramming sentences to help us understand how the sentence flows logically. For the writing portion, we will focus on several types of writing and the process for each. We will review narrative writing, story writing, literature critiques, comparison papers, research papers, and more. We go through outlining, good and better word choices, plots, creative writing techniques, and more. There will be homework during the week. Students will be expected to complete assignments during the week and turned in on time. I will not assign grades (unless requested to do so for transcripts) but class will go much smoother, and quicker, if everyone has completed assignments on time. ***NOTE: Read the following, reflect on your situation, and choose a price that makes sense for your family.
