QUICK MUSIC HISTORY Tuesdays 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM Teacher: Adam Cole Course Cost: $306 Ages: ALL Course Description: If you've ever wanted to know why the songs we listen to today sound the way they do, this is the course for you! The class does a sweep of big musical ideas from the music of Middle Ages Europe to parallel trends in Asia and Africa, ending in the development of music in the United States over the last 100 years from jazz to pop to beats. We'll find out what these musics all have in common, what kinds of music stay around and what kinds vanish, and where music might be going next. More than just a lecture series, we will make actual music in the various styles we study to get a sense of how they were constructed, and maybe even why!
