Students will need to buy or borrow the textbooks. Course Duration: 15 weeks Ages: 12-18 This is a two-semester course, and the second half of a two-year history curriculum. New students are welcome. Using books 6 through 10 in the series A History of US, by Joy Hakim, this year we'll cover the history of the United States from 1860 through the present. Each week, there will be required reading and homework assignments. In the first hour of each class, we'll review the material through interactive activities that develop critical thinking skills and make connections to present-day issues. An extra half hour of class time each week will be offered to older/high school students and will include individual research and presentations, plus a deeper dive into how our history impacts present-day situations. Both aspects of the class will be fairly rigorous and students should be prepared to complete at least two hours of reading and homework each week. Students will also need to buy or borrow the textbooks.
